Majors Season Comes to a Close with Loss to Sewanee
Sewanee, Tenn. – The Millsaps Majors Men's Basketball Team finished their season on Sunday afternoon as they fell to a motivated Sewanee Tigers team, who was looking to clinch a spot in the SCAC Tournament. With the loss, Millsaps finishes the season with a 8-16 overall record and a 3-13 record in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Majors fell behind from the start as Sewanee raced out to a 17-6 lead. Millsaps struggled to get anything to fall offensively in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, they begin to find a little bit of a groove later in the half as they brought the game within seven thanks to a bucket by senior Brian Merkel with 1:38 remaining in the half.
Sewanee responded though as Valentino Bryant buried a three to bring Sewanee's lead to 35-25 at half.
It would be as close as Millsaps could get as the Tigers finished off the Majors in the second half and took the 79-54 victory.
Junior Nick Cortese led Millsaps off the bench with 15 points while fellow junior Taylor Meades added 10.
The Majors say goodbye to seniors Brian Merkel and Jeff Brown as they competed in their final game today. The program thanks the two for their contributions the last four years.
